Pretty Poison is a title with tongue in cheek. I think it's such a pretty wildflower. It is commonly called Prickly Poison because it contains 1080 poison and when the British settled in Australia, they lost a lot of livestock to this family of plants. Australian native animals have a natural resistance to the poison in this plant. Its latin name is Gastrolobium spinosum.

After the Fire represents the beauty that results from bushfires and a comment on the controversial practice of hazard burning in our Australia's forests. I came across Cyanicula sericea (Silky blue orchid) in the bush and noticed they were growing in the charred remains from a summer fire. I was inspired by the kaleidoscope of colour and the contrasts of orange and blue. The blackened ground was dotted with new shoots of green growth. The timing of controlled burning is important to preserve the natural habitats and prevent the extinction of so many of our unique flora. I hope my work draws attention to this.

Bush Litter is from one of my favourite paintings.
Australian native wildflowers and Eucalyptus trees are the most diverse in the world, but don't ignore the environment in which they grow. Look down to see the world that enriches and supports, and is the beginning of those big gum trees. From the decaying undergrowth the nuts will disperse the tiny seeds. They will settle in the natural mulch and begin their life.
This painting is to show the lovely warm colours and textures that we will often ignore. A beautiful warm organic painting.

I love the colours and textures of the many Western Australian species of banksias. This one grows from Sharks Bay to Ravensthorpe, so is quite a common. I love the cones as much as I love the flowers, so wanted to show the beauty of that.
