Carmel Spark
Carmel Spark has been an artist for more than 30 years, creating her works with watercolours, acrylics, oils and pastels. Her interest and commitment to Australian flora and fauna is reflected within her drawings and paintings of the Australian bushland, and she finds herself frequently drawn to light and its effects on organic matter. Her works consistently incorporate high impact colour palettes and focus on incredible interesting subjects, that may otherwise be overlooked in the natural environment.
Carmel finds being in the bush and creating art as both deeply spiritual experiences. Her artistic philosophy is to engender a love of the Australian bush and its biodiversity to those who view her work.

I am endlessly fascinated with Australia's flora and fauna, which comprises most of my art. The waratah stands out as a sentinel in the bush, with the red contrasting with its complimentary opposite green foliage.

I've planted, photographed and painted eucalyptus bark patterns for many years now and they have never lost their fascination for me. Each bark is like a landscape on its own and the colours can be amazing.

Corymbia ficifolia is one of the great stand out mallees from WA. In full flower the tree looks like it's on fire.

I was drawn to this eucalyptus because of the shapes and colours on the bark, as well as the gentle shadows of its leaves moving across the trunk.

The spotted-tailed or tiger quoll, is mainland Australia's largest carnivorous marsupial.
We had these living near us on the Central Tablelands and they are beautiful animals.

Once again the Western Australian mallee eucalypts have captured my attention. This one looks delightful, looking up at it into the light.

Another of the beautiful Western Australian eucalyptus mallees to brighten up your wall. I love the delicate flower contrasting with the rough seedpod that it turns into after being fertilised.

The ochre-coloured rockfaces of the Australian outback are the perfect backdrop for this stately ghost gum. The sun hits the yellow grasses creating a dramatic light strip across the scene.

I love all flora and fauna of the Australian bush, most especially the eucalypts with their amazing colours and patterns in their bark.

This painting arose out of a workshop with friends on drawing the nude female form. The embellishments arrived later while I was painting it up - including the cat, who insisted on being in it!

I am always attracted to both eucalypts and light, so this one did it totally for me! These Western Australian mallee eucalypts are just divine and I cannot stop painting them.

I was totally absorbed by the light hitting the flowers and casting shadows on the dark green leaves underneath, that a wonderful feeling of peace flowed through me.

This is a newly described uncommon mallee from WA. The main features are the wings on the flower buds, together with thick leathery leaves. Another stunning Western Australian mallee!

When I lived on a conservation property up in Rylstone in NSW there were many blackberry plants on the property with delicious fruit each summer, which these red browed finches dined on every day. It was so great hearing them chattering while they ate. Lovely memories for me of a very special place.
