Terrestrial orchids always amaze me when I come across them in the bush. I may not at first notice them, it depends very much on which way the sun is directed and which way I am walking. Often, I will give up on finding them, turn for home and catch a glimpse of their petals in the sunlight. It's always a thrill.

This is one of many paintings of the iconic Aussie nut. Everyone loves these.
All I have to do to be inspired is take a walk around my bush yard and collect the gumnuts. They grow on the local Marri (Indigenous word for blood) trees which also ooze a beautiful red resin on hot days. The Red-tailed black cockatoos love the seeds inside the gumnut and sit in the gum trees dropping the nuts on the ground.
You won't have to look hard to find the bug in this one. It is a Stink bug. They are small and usually are camouflaged against the green leaves.
Wouldn't you love to have this in your home? You'd impress your visitors. The earthy colours will suit every decor.Perfectly Imperfect comes ready for you to hang on your wall. The painting continues around the sides, so no need for decorative framing.

Like musical notes, the leaves of my favourite Hakea are the features of this native. It also has beautiful small white flowers in spring that attract the pollinators like this little beetle.
Australia has such a variety of wildflowers, I cannot resist painting them. This one has colours that will go with any décor.
It is painted around the edges and does not need any decorative framing, so it is ready to hang on your wall.
You will love the detail and it being a talking point with friends.

This limited edition print is on fine art paper, so needs framing behind glass, which would enlarge the overall size.
I love the colours and textures of the many Western Australian species of banksias. This one grows from Sharks Bay to Ravensthorpe, so is quite a common. I love the cones as much as I love the flowers, so wanted to show the beauty of that.

So delicate and pretty pink is the Swan river myrtle. Each individual flower is tiny and masses of them grow along the stems and attract the bees.
You will love the detail in the painting of this beautiful Australian native wildflower. Your friends will be impressed.
It is painted on stretched canvas with an internal wooden frame. It is painted around the edges, so no need for expensive framing. Ready to hang on your wall and finished with a protective varnish.

Hakeas are my favourite Australian species. They grow all over Australia and in some of the harshest of conditions, ranging from extreme desert temperatures, to the cold southern coastal winds.
This wildflower grows in the shallow soils on granite peaks at Cape le Grand, Frenchmans Peak, Condingup Peak and Cape Arid east of Esperance. It battles frosty temperatures and cold coastal winds.
I love the detail of their banksia type petals which attract all sorts of pollinators.
Coastal Hakea clavata is finished with a protective varnish and is ready to hang in your home.

How can I not paint these beautiful banksia flowers. They grow madly in my garden and flower most of the year. I ignored them for a long time, but realised how beautiful the many stages of flowering is. They are unique to the south west corner of Western Australia and their name has recently changed to Banksia.
I prefer the name the local indigenous use; Boojak or Boojan.
This painting would make your home very unique and invite a lot of discussion. You will love it, just like the bees. The detail is fascinating.Ready to hang.

The bug in this one may not be obvious. It is the larvae form of a Eucalyptus weevil, a tiny beetle. The bugs are usually camouflaged against the brown branches.

An iconic Australian farming scene, burning last year's crop in preparation for seeding a new crop. This doesn't happen as much these days with the threat of wildfire. The farmer must keep a watchful eye on the fire ready to take action if it gets away. A dedication to the hardworking Aussie farmer.
I chose to put a female in the painting to show the change in workplace roles. Women traditionally helped on farms and outback stations as the wife or child of the male owner or overseer. These days more women are working in roles traditionally done by males as paid employees and are now the managers and owners of their own properties.
I love painting the typical outback attire - jeans, shirt and hat.

Boogardie Station in the mid west of Western Australia has been owned by the Jones family for over 150 years. The shearing shed was the first to be built in that district. The original shed was built from local orange granite stone and subsequently added to over the years. It is not used so much now because the drought has forced the owners to reduce sheep numbers. The stock they still have is sent to coastel regions where the feed is more abundant.
The darkness and quiet of the shearing shed somehow evokes thoughts of a working shed with noises of dogs, shearers, engines and sheep.
A time of hard work and comradery.

I have these growing everywhere on my block in the Perth hills. At first I thought them insignificant, but on closer inspection, discovered the detail making up these tiny flowers.
Of course the ants love these native flowers, so I had to include a busy little one.
White flowers are particularly hard to paint because I want them white, but need to use colour to define the shapes of the petals.
Teatree is the common name for this Pericalymma ellipticum, which smells like the bush. The background of this painting helps to push the white flowers into focus.

The inspiration for this painting is the Australian desert; the colours of blue against the orange, brown desert. If you've been to Western Australia in springtime, you will know what I mean.
If you haven't seen WA in flower, this is a small view of what the desert actually looks like, masses of beautiful colour.
These gorgeous blue/mauve flowers are tough and will brighten up spring.
I like to include visiting insects in my paintings. This one is not hard to find, a long-legged Crane fly.
