Philippa Storey
Philippa Storey is a talented artist originally from Canada who has found her creative home in Australia. Starting as a singer/songwriter, she transitioned to visual arts in 2019, finding a passion for travel sketching and painting with watercolours, acrylics and oils. Despite having no formal art training until 2024, Philippa has honed her skills through short courses and workshops with esteemed artists such as Jessica Ashton, Fiona Lowry, and Petra Pinn.
In 2024, she started taking art classes at the North Shore School of Art with Mike Lamble and her artwork blossomed – selling 6 artworks in 3 months and being a finalist in 2024 in the Doyles, the Australian Artists Collective, Hunters Hill Art Prize, Northern Beaches Art Prize, Aspire Gallery Art Prize and, in 2025, the Art to Art Unearthed Art Prize, the Mosman Rowers Art Prize, and the inaugural Lifeline Art Exhibition. Her first exhibition stand was at The Other Art Fair from May 8th – 11th, at the White Bay Cruise Terminal.
Philippa`s artistic style is characterized by her love for seascapes – and more currently magnificent skyscapes - capturing the beauty and tranquility of the ocean and sunrises in vibrant colours and fluid brushstrokes. Her works evoke a sense of peace and serenity, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the calming allure of the sea and the skies.
Her art has been featured in numerous exhibitions, including shows at galleries, restaurants and boutique venues. I return to this special place near where we live constantly, drawn by those awe-inspiring views of God's magnificent creation. As I painted those divine rays breaking through the clouds, I found myself meditating on what it means to await enlightenment - not just with knowledge, but with gratitude for all we have received and faith in all we will receive. There's something profound about that moment just before the light fully breaks through, when we stand in anticipation, our hearts open and ready to receive whatever wisdom, beauty, or blessing is about to pour down. I was mesmerised as I painted this piece, watching the clouds seem to ascend upward into the heavens, drawn toward the Creator in streams of golden light, only to cascade back down in radiant glory. It became a visual prayer about the eternal conversation between earth and heaven, that sacred exchange where our praise rises up and His glory shines back down. Every time I stand before a sunrise like this - with those soft corals and blues painting the sky, gentle waves rolling in, and small shorebirds scattered across the wet sand - I'm filled with this profound longing to truly know the mind of the Creator. How does such beauty come to be? What divine hand paints these colours across the morning sky? As I worked on this piece, each of those little birds became like me - small witnesses standing in awe before something infinitely greater, aspiring to understand the mystery and majesty of it all. The soft, peaceful palette reflects that contemplative mood, that gentle wondering that comes with dawn.
