The beach at sunrise has always been my most sacred time - when I commune with God, cleanse my spirit, and prepare my heart for whatever the day will bring. This painting emerged from an image of a beautiful glowing sun with a piece of driftwood that had been sculpted by wind and waves into the perfect form of prayer itself. It stood there on the sand like a natural altar, silhouetted against the golden light spilling across the water, reminding me that all of nature is in constant conversation with the Divine. This artwork is my invitation to you to pause, to breathe, and to remember that every sunrise is both a gift and a promise.

This large piece surprised me with how quickly it flowed from my brush - as though it was meant to be painted exactly this way, in this moment. Every time I worked on it, a profound peace settled over me, that same stillness I was trying to capture on canvas. My first painting of 2026 came with its own lesson about beginnings. Created whilst Australia is in holiday mode without my art teacher to guide me, this piece became a metaphor for the year ahead - stepping into new territory, trusting my own vision, and meeting challenges with courage rather than certainty. As I worked through the difficulties of capturing those luminous turquoise waters and golden light without my usual support, I realized that's exactly what a new year asks of us: to face new horizons with faith and to embrace the creative challenge of becoming who we're meant to be. Each brushstroke was an act of trust, each colour choice a small leap into the unknown. This painting reminds me that growth happens not in our comfort zones, but when we stand before a blank canvas - or a new year - and dare to create something we've never created before.

This was my final painting of 2025, created as I stood on the threshold between what was and what will be. Arising captures that hopeful moment of sunrise - the perfect metaphor for a New Year emerging from the darkness, full of promise and possibility. As I painted those gentle waves catching the golden light, I found myself reflecting on all that had unfolded in the year behind me and opening my heart to whatever 2026 would bring. The soft blues and warm golds speak to that peaceful anticipation we feel when we trust that each new day, each new year, brings fresh opportunities to grow, create and discover. This painting is my prayer of gratitude for the journey completed and my welcome to all that is arising on the horizon.
