Darren King
Based near Wollongong on the NSW south coast, artist Darren King has been honing his skills in collage, printmaking, mixed media and painting for the past 10+ years. Darren’s focus prior to rediscovering his love of painting and printmaking in his 40’s, was primarily spent building his printing business and family life. Trained in fine arts, cartooning, illustration, graphic design and screen printing, his works attempt to fuse elements from each of these practices together.
Recently he has rediscovered collage and now creates a selection of paintings made entirely from up-cycled paper. Discarded magazines, junk mail, maps, paper bags and old books are all harvested for interesting pieces, to create original, vibrant, textural artworks.
Darren’s art captures the beauty in the everyday and occasionally attempts to revive long forgotten favourites. An absolute celebration of the local, the joyous, the small-scale, the tasty, the abandoned and the ordinary.
Darren King has won several awards for his art over the years and has been in multiple group exhibitions and had sold his fine art to collectors worldwide. Darren's art is represented by Aspire Gallery in Brisbane and is also available online at their website.

This chaotic piece is inspired by street art and features pieces taken from screen printed test prints I've released in the past. Each eye piece for example, is from a different multi coloured hand pulled screen print.
The background contains a black screen print printed directly onto the board, plus paint both brushed and sprayed, as well as silver foil. The silver foil picks up the light beautifully on different angles.
Paper collage elements have also been added, sourced from recycled magazines, books, maps and prints to create this one of a kind original piece.
This artwork comes with an external white wooden frame, painted in a gloss white. Two coats of gloss varnish have also been applied to protect the artwork. The gloss finish really makes the colours pop and gives the work a glassy finish. This piece has a wire at the back and is ready for your walls.

From a distance, this piece is a simple beer can, but up close the collaged elements display abstract textures and shapes.
The collage pieces have been harvested from discarded kids books, brochures, magazines, old screen prints I've created and junk mail. The background is primarily paint over the top of the collaged areas, muting the patterns but still allowing some elements to push through. The can is made entirely from recycled paper collage.
The piece is on a stretched canvas frame. It has a wire at the back and is ready to hang. Two coats of gloss varnish have been applied to protect the artwork and the gloss finish gives the piece a glassy finish. The edges are decorated so it is ready for your wall.

10 layer/colour screen print on heavy white paper.
In this edition, the first 6 prints were printed on ivory Fabriano Rosaspina 60% cotton, 220gsm acid free paper. They are now sold out. The next 18 prints were printed on white Fabriano Unica 50% cotton, 250gsm acid free paper. Approx 10 remain available. All prints are signed and numbered.
10 layers of ink - a mixture of gloss and matte inks - were used to give the print real depth. Loads of transparent colours, miles of layering and messy goodness. The print is based on an original pen & ink drawing.
***All art prints are hand printed and finished by the artist. Some minor ink variations during the run may occur.

Created using screen printing (black), collage and acrylic paint, including fluoro orange.
The black screen print was printed directly onto the canvas. Paint, colour and collaged paper elements were then added. Collage elements include pieces cut and torn from vintage magazines and an old destroyed record cover (Carousel). These combined with pieces taken from magazines, books, maps, brochures and pics all blend to create this one of a kind original artwork.
The piece is on stretched canvas. Two coats of gloss varnish have also been applied to protect the artwork. The gloss finish really makes the colours pop and gives the work a glassy finish. It has a wire at the back and the paint/collage continues on the edges so it is ready for your walls.

I've been revisiting still life objects through art that bring, or have brought me joy over the years. So this piece is painted from my personal collection of good tunes, great movies and shows, killer books and cracking video games.

Framed in a simple white painted wooden frame. Ready to hang.
Three coats of gloss varnish have been applied to protect the artwork. The gloss gives the piece a glassy finish, and really brings out all the colour in this piece.
