Trisha Lambi
Hi, I’m Trisha Lambi — an award-winning artist with a love for bold, sensuous, and often haunting oil paintings. For me, it’s all about light — the way it hits a form, the drama it creates, the stories it tells. I don’t consciously set out to paint emotions, but they always seem to creep in anyway, which is something I’ve come to embrace.
I began painting in a professional capacity in 2004 and, since then, my works have been shown all over Australia and around the world, and I’ve been lucky enough to tick off some pretty special moments in my career so far. My studio is located in Karalee, overlooking the Brisbane River.

This painting is part of my series exploring beauty—how it shows up in nature, in the body and in the space between the two. I’ve always been drawn to the way flowers and figures can echo each other: soft, layered, vulnerable, but also powerful.

Falling in Light was such a pleasure to paint - I found myself in an almost meditative state as I followed each curve and contour. The growing ugliness of the outside world faded away while I painted and I found respite in movement and beauty. I think the painting speaks to the courage of letting go, of finding beauty in uncertainty, and trusting that even in moments of free fall, there can be light, growth and grace.

Inspired by a family holiday on K’Gari Island, this series always draws me back. The little girl is my daughter, Zoe, and with her now living in Edinburgh, painting her was delightful - in a way it was like she was home again.

This painting is part of my newest series exploring beauty. I hope it gives viewers a moment to step back from the chaos and ugliness of the world and think about life's simple beauty. I want it to remind people of the natural wonders around us and encourage them to appreciate them more deeply.

They say every tidal wave begins with a ripple and when I think of momentous occasions in my life, most did start with something small and seemingly insignificant. Perhaps it’s nature’s way of allowing us to acclimatise to change, but I wish I could have stayed and bobbed around in those ripples for longer before the tsunami engulfed me.

Having just returned from Greece, I am inspired by its mythology. I see the beautiful woman in this piece as a siren: a figure whose beauty and voice lure sailors to their doom. Yet in this interpretation, the danger lies not in malice, but in the irresistible pull of beauty and complexity. The siren is no longer just a myth, but a metaphor for every moment we are drawn to something beyond our control.

In "Guardian of the Soul," I delve into the mystique of Egyptian mythology, drawing inspiration from the enigmatic guardian of the underworld, Nehebkau. Initially perceived as an ominous spirit, Nehebkau's metamorphosis into a powerful, benevolent deity serves as the thematic backbone of this painting. It is a visual narrative that transcends the dichotomy of good and evil, fear and protection, echoing the complexities inherent in the ancient tales that have shaped our understanding of the afterlife.
At the heart of this piece is a woman adorned with serpentine legs, a symbolic representation of Nehebkau's role in guiding the soul into the beyond by harmonising the two facets of the soul, Ka and Ba. The serpentine form, both mesmerising and transformative, encapsulates the essence of Nehebkau's benevolence and power.
"Guardian Of the Soul" invites the viewer to contemplate the delicate balance between opposing forces, urging a reconsideration of conventional boundaries. It prompts reflection on the profound interplay between fear and protection, and the blurred lines that define good and evil. Through this exploration of duality, the painting encourages viewers to embark on their own introspective journey, transcending the physical realm to ponder the enduring mysteries of the soul and the timeless dance that leads us from life into the afterlife.

Earlier this year, we travelled to Italy, and while wandering the beautiful streets of Varenna, Lake Como, we came across a group of children leaping from an old stone pier into the shimmering waters below. Their laughter echoed against the ancient stones, instantly transporting me back to the carefree days of my own childhood.
“Flying Free (Memories of Varenna)” is a tribute to the joy found in simple moments and the memories that shape us. It serves as a reminder to cherish our own fleeting flights of freedom and to seek out the beauty in spontaneity and play. This painting reflects not just a day in Italy, but a celebration of the adventurous spirit that resides within us all.

I started this series of paintings back in 2012 with Forever Summer and I love coming back to it, as it brings back beautiful memories of a family holiday on Fraser Island. It was in December and it was so hot, but the kids had great fun tobogganing on the sand dunes. They're all grown now so it makes me nostalgic when I paint these scenes.
