Trisha Lambi

Hi, I’m Trisha Lambi — an award-winning artist with a love for bold, sensuous, and often haunting oil paintings. For me, it’s all about light — the way it hits a form, the drama it creates, the stories it tells. I don’t consciously set out to paint emotions, but they always seem to creep in anyway, which is something I’ve come to embrace.

I began painting in a professional capacity in 2004 and since then my work has been shown all over Australia and around the world, and I’ve been lucky enough to tick off some pretty special moments in my career so far.

My studio is in Karalee, overlooking the Brisbane River. It’s a peaceful spot about 40 minutes west of Brisbane City and I’m always happy to welcome visitors by appointment.

The latest in my series celebrating beauty and what is more beautiful than a hydrangea (and my daughter of course!).

  • This painting is part of my series exploring beauty—how it shows up in nature, in the body and in the space between the two. I’ve always been drawn to the way flowers and figures can echo each other: soft, layered, vulnerable, but also powerful.

  • This vibrant, photorealistic work captures the essence of carefree summer pool days. Part of my evocative pool series, the painting was inspired by the desire for light, warmth and relaxation during the COVID years.

In this scene, a young woman lounges on a black-and-white floatie, the sun casting ripples of light across the water. My signature attention to light and form infuses the work with both realism and an uplifting sense of ease.

  • My daughter models for my figurative paintings and our photo shoots take place under the harsh Australian light which makes for dramatic narratives. She is a Taurus, so I thought a cow skull would be a fitting companion for her.

  • Wild and Untamed is a celebration of beauty that refuses to behave. The figure owns her space — unapologetic, a little reckless, and completely alive and at ease in the chaotic beauty surrounding her. The flowers rise and fold like waves of energy, echoing her wildness rather than containing it. This painting pushes against the polished ideal of beauty and celebrates something far more real — fierce, flawed and gloriously untamed.

  • The title of this figurative piece was inspired by the old movie Flying High - a comedy parodying the disaster film genre. During a tense landing the air traffic control boss declares at various stages, “looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking....looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking....looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines....looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue...etc.” It struck me when I was painting this during the Covid lockdowns that that's how that year unfolded with disaster after disaster hitting us.

  • When I was five, I was given a book of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales—a gift I loved so much its tattered cover and torn pages still tell the story of how often I returned to it. One story, Thumbelina, captivated me in particular. Her journey through a world of towering flowers, oversized creatures, and the looming threat of living underground both fascinated and frightened me.

This painting is an homage to that childhood memory. The girl, nestled among an explosion of vibrant blooms, embodies the spirit of Thumbelina—delicate yet resilient, seemingly lost, yet discovering beauty and strength in her surroundings. While creating this piece, I wasn’t focused on literal details, but rather on evoking the sensation of being enveloped by nature, where fragility and power intertwine.

The flowers are more than just a backdrop; they represent how I saw the world as a child—immense, awe-inspiring and full of wonder. This painting is my way of bringing those early dreams to life, where they continue to shape and inspire my imagination.

A return to my umbrella series, this painting captures a delicate balance between the warmth and fire of the setting sun and the cool, calm waters. The red umbrella is a symbol of hope and optimism, its vibrant hue standing out against the contrasting colors of the stormy sky and icy water. It represents resilience and reminds us that no matter the circumstances, there is always a glimmer of light and hope on the horizon.

"Somewhere the Water is Calm" encourages viewers to find moments of stillness and reflection, recognising the enduring presence of optimism even in challenging times.

Continuing my series celebrating beauty, this painting, with its vibrant colours and blossoming flowers, becomes a vessel for the intangible—the elusive memories that linger on the edge of consciousness, just beyond the grasp of understanding.

As I painted, the colours and flowers in this piece brought back a memory which I could not articulate. It is a memory that continues to elude me, yet its significance is undeniable. There is a palpable aura of yearning within the memory, and this translates into the work, as if the essence of the past beckons to be remembered.

This painting invites you, the viewer, to join me in this exploration of the mysterious terrain of memory. It is an invitation to embrace the beauty of the undefined, to revel in the emotional resonance of what once was and what may forever remain just beyond conscious reach.

  • The salt plains around Woomera in the Australian outback were entrancing - at first glance dry and barren, but the more I looked, the more the plains revealed themselves. Subtle colours reflected in a big sky became more and more vivid and I felt a sense of peace in just being in that moment.

  • This painting feels like a natural progression from my umbrella series. Those works weren’t dark by any means, but they were created at a time when I was quietly seeking a bit of protection and steadiness. This new piece is bright, fun and carries a sense of release – as if the sting of the past is fading a little. My son described it beautifully: “It’s like a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis.”

  • In 2018 I was lucky enough to undertake an artist residency in Crete, where I painted a mural on the streets of Lakkos, Iraklion. While I was over in that dazzling part of the world, I spent 4 days on Santorini wandering the streets with my husband and every turn was an inspiration. It was, however, this scene we happened upon while walking from Imerovigli to Fira which totally captivated me and I knew I would paint it one day. I think every artist who has been there has tried to capture Santorini's beauty and there is an argument that paintings of this island have become perhaps a little hackneyed. I disagree, as I believe beauty can never become trite, so here is my own ode to Santorini.
