• Ink on canvas

    61cm x 50.5cm x 3.5cm

  • This artwork was produced with alcohol ink on pure transparent linen canvas. The neutral tone of the canvas creates a subtle harmony with the mix of warm yellow and sangria tones. The addition of a vibrant lime and gold adds contrast and interest in the work, as well as contributing to the subtle sense of movement. I particularly enjoy the way alcohol ink spreads and layers when applied to a surface. While producing this work, I manipulated the ink through blowing air over it through a straw. The result is an aesthetically pleasing artwork that would suit any contemporary space.

  • I feel as though 'Eden' has evolved from my subconscious in so many ways. I found a flow in creating this artwork that I have not experienced before. I was completely engrossed in the process and although it was time consuming, the end result was well worth it. In this work, I wanted to create a character of nature and beauty and incorporate my love of birds, pattern and vibrant colour. Eden's eye draws the viewer in to explore the intricate detail in the rest of the work. I enjoyed incorporating portraiture into this piece and look forward to exploring it again in the near future.

  • This artwork was produced with acrylic ink to create a silhouette of a bird in green, yellow and white hues. Areas have been blocked out in gold and black around the edges of the work to create a sense of balance and flow. Following this, an area of the background has been filled with intricate zentangle pattern to add interest and aesthetic appeal. This artwork juxtaposes the very controlled and deliberate application of pattern with the uncontrolled, free flowing nature of ink.

  • This is a bright pop art style portrait, with the addition of lace and other pattern work. The real texture of the lace creates contrast and interest in the work, drawing the viewer's eye to the detail. The portrait is intended to appear abstract in style. While producing this work, I continued to add more pattern and blocks of colour in an effort to achieve balance. Like some of my other paintings, this one is quite busy, hence the title, 'I've got a lot going on right now'.

  • This large colourful artwork was inspired by nature and organic shape. It was produced through the layering of transparent and opaque hues. The vibrancy of colour adds to the aesthetic appeal in the work and communicates a feeling of joy. A sense of direction has been achieved with the addition of a horizontal white line traveling across the work in a wave like motion. This large scale artwork would suit any contemporary home adding a pop of joyful colour into your space.

  • This artwork is the second in my ‘Rainbows End’ series and again represents my interest in shape, pattern and the use of vibrant hues in the production of artwork. The base layer has been built up with the use of a catalyst wedge, followed by more deliberate brush work to define the mountain like shapes. Opaque layers of paint have been applied over some of the shapes to increase interest and draw the viewer’s eye. Finally, stencilling has been added, further enhancing aesthetic appeal in the work. Some new elements have been added in this artwork different to that of the first in the series. This time I have included some lace stencil work with spray paint to add some subtle detail, and I have also included a stencil of a bird quite subtly in the top right corner. I have titled this series of artwork ‘Rainbows End’ because these paintings represent to me a vision of a mountainous scene at the end of a rainbow.

  • This artwork was produced with alcohol ink on pure transparent linen canvas. The neutral tone of the canvas creates a subtle harmony with the mix of cool blues and sangria tones. The addition of a vibrant lime and copper adds contrast and interest in the work as well as contributing to the subtle sense of movement. I particularly enjoy the way alcohol ink spreads and layers when applied to a surface. While producing this work, I manipulated the ink through blowing air over it through a straw. • This painting is a playful experiment with silhouettes and overlaid pattern. An initial base layer was built up with acrylic paint and a catalyst wedge, followed by spray painted stencil work. The two flamingos were then added and the background covered with white. Some of the stencil designs were then reapplied with acrylic paint to make them pop a little more. I am a bird lover at heart and I'm inspired by the beauty of flamingos.

  • 'Audrey' is a new adventure for me. I haven't produced portraits in a long while and was feeling inspired to revisit this subject matter. I have built up a background of contrasting warm and cool hues to create interest and contrast. 'Audrey' has ben added over the top and becomes intwined with the background through the transparent application of paint on her hands and shoulder. An outline of her hair and the flower she is reflecting on create balance to the work. The viewer is automatically drawn to her face because it is the least transparent feature in the painting and stands out from the background. 'Audrey' means strength and I have chosen this title for her because it took a great deal of creative strength to decide the painting was complete and hold back from adding anything else to it.

  • Producing zentangle work appeals to me because it helps me escape and feel relaxed and at ease. This is what I hope the viewer takes away from observing this large scale artwork. It has been a time consuming process to complete, but the intricacy that results makes it very satisfying and well worth the effort. I am particularly intrigued with the addition of the black areas that lead the viewers eye across the work, further increasing its aesthetic appeal.

  • This artwork is a new way of working for me and is very different from my usual style. It is fitting that the meaning of the name Avril is 'opening buds of spring; born in April.' For me, this holds significance because the artwork was produced in the month of April and I like to think of Avril as a new beginning in my creative journey.
In producing Avril, I felt a sense of freedom and found myself letting the practice become more organic. I let the journey become the important part of the process rather than the final result.

  • This diptych has been produced with alcohol ink on canvas. I have titled it ‘Head in the Clouds’ because the way in which the colours overlap and combine reminds me of a whimsical sky. The darker tones in the centre of each canvas lighten and spread as they drift to the edges. The addition of gold in the work catches the viewer's eye and draws them into the intricacy of the colour.
