Margaret Lukas

Margaret Lukas is a contemporary Australian artist based in Redhead, on the shores of Lake Macquarie, NSW – Awabakal Country. A self-taught painter, she works primarily in acrylic and mixed media, exploring the harmony, texture, and emotion found in nature.

Her background in horticultural landscape design informs much of her work, inspiring botanical themes and coastal landscapes that reflect the colours and rhythms of the natural world. Margaret’s style moves fluidly between impressionistic florals and abstract interpretations of nature – each piece telling a story of connection, memory, and place.

  • Sunday Drive invites you into a quiet moment of escape, where a soft pink sky opens into rolling green hills and a path lined with wildflowers. I often paint from memory and enjoy imagining how the landscape would have been in earlier times.

Painted in expressive brushstrokes, the work balances softness with strength — much like the native plants themselves.

With its contemporary palette and organic form, Prettiest Protea brings warmth and elegance to any space—perfect for modern, coastal, or feminine interiors.

  • Banksia Gold is a radiant celebration of one of Australia’s most iconic native blooms.

Set against a vibrant blush-pink backdrop, the sculptural banksia stands luminous and proud, its golden crown glowing with warmth and vitality.

Expressive brushstrokes capture the intricate texture of the flower head, while layered greens surround the bloom with movement and life.

Inspired by the sunlit coastal landscapes of east coast Australia, this piece speaks to resilience, strength and natural abundance. The banksia flourishes in the harshest conditions, yet blooms with remarkable beauty, reminding us of endurance, hope and growth.

The contrast of warm gold against soft pink creates a contemporary, uplifting palette, making this artwork perfect for modern interiors, feminine spaces, nurseries, or coastal homes seeking a touch of Australian botanical charm.
