Zoey Devaney
Zoey Devaney is an artist and former art teacher residing in the picturesque seaside town of Torquay, Victoria.
A practising artist since 2001, Zoey is from the UK and moved to Australia in 2023 with her family. She graduated from university in 2015, receiving a First-Class BA/Hons in Fine Art and Professional Practice, where she went on to receive recognition as ‘One of the North Wests Top Art Graduates’.
Zoey works in a variety of media, including acrylic, oils, pastel and inks, across a spectrum of traditional painting genres, including abstract, still life and landscape. Since moving to Australia, Zoey has been predominantly working in the realm of abstract painting. Her work is heavily influenced by the form and hidden colours found in the natural landscape.
Through her use of vibrant, bold colours and a strong focus on line and mark making, marks often inspired by walking trail maps she follows with her family, Zoey creates a visual language that invites the viewer to explore beyond the surface and into the depths of her abstracted landscapes, making personal connections to interpret the work on their own.

Misty Mountain View is inspired by the views seen on mountain trails, hiking down through the valley and snaking in-between.
A deep Australian olive green contrasts against the blush pink of the sky, blending brushstrokes with thick paint to create the illusion of mountain tops, with highlights of raw sienna and a lush Australian Salmon Gum pink splattered on the mountain sides, finished with a misting of clouds. This abstracted landscape features line work taken from trail maps that 'walk' through the peaks.
Part of a new series of abstracted landscapes inspired by the mountains, I’ve used both mark making and a limited palette to create this calming artwork.

Family walks along the coast, getting lost or adventuring off the beaten path, inspired the original painting. This artwork is inspired by the hidden colours of the cliffside and rocks that sit atop and beneath the sands. Lines represent the flow of the water and the walks taken along them, getting lost along the way.

Along the Via Ferrata is inspired by the views from the top of mountain trails, hiking the Via Ferrata and looking down into the valley.

A View from the Plane is a calming diptych that continues the exploration of earthy, grounded tones within the series. Deep Australian olive green is gently contrasted with blush pink, while layers of antique white move across the surface in soft, gestural marks.
These flowing forms evoke the quiet rhythm of mountain ranges seen from above — peaks emerging and dissolving into mist — creating a sense of distance, stillness and quiet reflection.
The artwork is signed on the reverse and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Professionally framed in a raw Australian oak floater frame, the two panels are designed to sit in dialogue with one another and are ready to hang.

Experimenting with new styles and techniques helped form this flowing contrast of colours. Whilst working on the painting, it began to remind me of a flowing riverbed and I tried to highlight the flow with sweeping brush strokes and lines to connect and emphasise this movement upon the canvas.
