Tonia Burgess

When asked more than a decade ago if she paints, by the parent of an art student, this moment in itself became the catalyst that launched Tonia Burgess’ creative trajectory. Born in Hobart, and raised primarily in the bayside suburbs of Melbourne, she was continually stimulated by artistic expression and, in turn, cultivated a deep appreciation for the exposure it provided. With a desire to make things, she later acquired a Bachelor of Education in Visual Arts, a degree centred around the assembly of artistic resources and technique development.

Beginning with the exploration of abstract in 2010, these works reference the physical landscape whilst investigating intimate emotional content and understandings. Largely characterised by audacious colour palettes and cubic patterns, they portray a dynamism and exude vitality. In time, she segued into her primary practice of texturised florals, which remain raw and unrefined renderings of botanical motifs, and a visual tribute to the multiple phases within their lifecycle.

Majoring in textiles at university, and learning stitch work and pattern making at a young age, she has steadily integrated these elements into her designs, utilising them as a means to create pertinent layering and poignant mark-making. These components, together with a combination of both elated and melancholia colourings, aim to express the life and demise, the triumph and tragedy of each floral composition; themes and sensations that possess an enduring quality and celebrate the realisation of a life fully lived.

Purchasing from Tonia Burgess:

If you'd like to purchase an original work over $500, you're welcome to pay in stages. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to hold the work. The balance can be paid the following month, or in 2 monthly payments of 25% each. Please contact me at tonia.burgess.art@gmail.com to arrange this.

Shipping costs vary due to size, weight and destination. Most artwork has an estimated shipping cost included at the checkout on my website, based on the work’s size and your location.

Australian deliveries are sent by Australia Post or courier depending on size and weight, and most arrive within 3-7 days from time of shipping.

I do ship internationally to most countries, although the work will take longer to arrive. If your location isn't available at checkout, please message me with your details and the piece you'd like, and I can provide the shipping options.

Overseas shipments (outside Australia) may be subject to import duties and taxes, according to the laws of the destination country, and are at the customer's expense.

For international shipments, I use Australia Post International or couriers such as DHL/FedEx, depending on the destination and size of the artwork. All works are fully insured during transit and carefully packaged with archival materials to ensure they arrive in perfect condition.

If the actual cost of shipping on my website’s checkout is significantly more than quoted, I reserve the right to discuss this with you and adjust the shipping fee accordingly.

I aim to ship all works within 5-7 business days of receiving payment.

Selected works are available framed. Please inquire with me directly via my website about framing options for specific pieces. Framed works will incur additional shipping costs due to the extra weight and dimensions added by the frame.

If a painting isn't as you expected, you have 7 days to contact me by email and request a refund. Once a return has been agreed, you're responsible for packing and arranging return delivery using an insured service. Once the piece has been safely returned, I'll refund your payment within 14 days. Original shipping costs are non-refundable.

If you receive a work that's been damaged in transit, please contact me within 48 hours with photographs and I'll arrange a replacement or full refund, including shipping costs.

Due to the complexity and cost of international returns, I'm unable to offer returns on products sent outside of Australia, except in cases of damage during transit.
