Tonia Burgess
Creating abstracts inspired by both the organic environment and her inner spiritual landscape, Tonia Burgess’ works incorporate muted and atmospheric colour tones that are deposited onto the canvas in beautifully arranged, shapely segments. With a strong sense of faith and connection to the divine, and a deep appreciation for nature’s seasonal life cycles, her works explore these concepts through colour selection, mark making and layering, as they reflect her emotional content, spiritual experiences and life’s natural ebb and flow.
Born in Hobart and raised in Melbourne, Tonia grew up in a highly creative family. Her father, who was a draftsman by trade, created model aircrafts, her mother was a particularly avid quilter, sewer and ceramist, whilst her aunt was a visual artist and art educator. As a consequence, much of her childhood was spent learning to draw, sew and construct things by hand. Throughout her secondary schooling, Tonia consistently took art as a course subject and was eventually selected to exhibit in today’s equivalent of Top Arts with a series of three-dimensional artworks she produced in year 12. Later, she acquired a Bachelor of Education in visual arts at Melbourne University, where she studied a mixture of ceramics, printmaking, photography, textiles and garment construction.
After completing her qualification, Tonia worked as a teacher for several years in the UK before returning to Australia. Since then, she has enjoyed an extensive career in Victoria’s education sector and currently teaches art and visual design at Christway College in Melbourne’s southeast. Additionally, she runs an active art studio, allowing her to produce works for exhibitions, sustain relationships with reputable galleries and contribute to the wider arts community. Tonia’s works have exhibited within metropolitan Melbourne and Queensland, and she has produced numerous commissions for public spaces and private collectors.

Purchasing from Tonia Burgess:
If you'd like to purchase an original work over $500, you're welcome to pay in stages. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to hold the work. The balance can be paid the following month, or in 2 monthly payments of 25% each. Please contact me at tonia.burgess.art@gmail.com to arrange this.
Shipping costs vary due to size, weight and destination. Most artwork has an estimated shipping cost included at the checkout on my website, based on the work’s size and your location.
Australian deliveries are sent by Australia Post or courier depending on size and weight, and most arrive within 3-7 days from time of shipping.
I do ship internationally to most countries, although the work will take longer to arrive. If your location isn't available at checkout, please message me with your details and the piece you'd like, and I can provide the shipping options.
Overseas shipments (outside Australia) may be subject to import duties and taxes, according to the laws of the destination country, and are at the customer's expense.
For international shipments, I use Australia Post International or couriers such as DHL/FedEx, depending on the destination and size of the artwork. All works are fully insured during transit and carefully packaged with archival materials to ensure they arrive in perfect condition.
If the actual cost of shipping on my website’s checkout is significantly more than quoted, I reserve the right to discuss this with you and adjust the shipping fee accordingly.
I aim to ship all works within 5-7 business days of receiving payment.
Selected works are available framed. Please inquire with me directly via my website about framing options for specific pieces. Framed works will incur additional shipping costs due to the extra weight and dimensions added by the frame.
If a painting isn't as you expected, you have 7 days to contact me by email and request a refund. Once a return has been agreed, you're responsible for packing and arranging return delivery using an insured service. Once the piece has been safely returned, I'll refund your payment within 14 days. Original shipping costs are non-refundable.
If you receive a work that's been damaged in transit, please contact me within 48 hours with photographs and I'll arrange a replacement or full refund, including shipping costs.
Due to the complexity and cost of international returns, I'm unable to offer returns on products sent outside of Australia, except in cases of damage during transit.
