Linda Gregor is an accomplished artist whose passion for capturing the beauty of the great outdoors, particularly the mesmerising coastline, is evident in the vibrant and exhilarating artworks she creates. Born into an "arty" family, Linda was fortunate to grow up under the influence of her father, Kevin Best, a professional artist whose enthusiasm and ability to bring scenes to life on canvas became a significant source of inspiration.
Being stimulated by the colours of the ocean and the skies, Linda's work is a celebration of the coastal and rural landscapes she has encountered throughout her travels across Australia.
While Linda has a special affinity for oils and acrylics, appreciating their smooth blends and rich colours beneath the varnish, she is also known for experimenting with various mediums, including watercolours, gouache and pastels. Her versatility allows her to explore different techniques and effects, constantly evolving her artistic expression.

Green rolling hills, valleys filled with trees, and quaint country homes are truly a breathtaking scene in Gundagai NSW. The moody skies, shaped by unsettled weather, added drama to the scene.
This piece is brighter and more colourful than my usual style.
Gundagai, NSW, is such a picturesque place! Nestled on the Murrumbidgee River and steeped in history, it has inspired poets and songwriters alike. During a recent visit, I was thrilled to capture its beauty in this piece. The green rolling hills, valleys filled with trees, and quaint country homes are truly breathtaking. The moody skies, shaped by unsettled weather, added drama to the scene. I look forward to visiting again and creating more works inspired by this charming locale.

The experience of being in wide open spaces with stunning settings truly makes you feel alive. Watching the sun emerge over the distant hills to announce the day is a sight to behold.
It's worth waking up early to capture this view! I recently spent some time on a property in Braidwood, NSW, and the experience of being in wide open spaces with stunning settings truly makes you feel alive. Watching the sun emerge over the distant hills to announce the day is a sight to behold, with only the sounds of cattle or birds breaking the silence. The sky lights up with incredible colours—vibrant oranges, pinks, and yellows reflecting off mauve clouds against a bright blue backdrop. Gradually, the colours shift, revealing more of the hills and paddocks, with pretty highlights appearing on the landscape as the day begins.

Love spring with its beautiful floral displays! Camellias are stunning with their perfectly formed blooms in all range of colours! And don’t you just love the fragrances?!! This one was a truly bright pink, set against lovely glossy leaves - they just sing in the garden! A few geraniums were ever plentiful nearby...adding to the mass of colour! Did I say I love spring?!!

A mass of colours fills the garden in spring! It's such a delight and the fragrances superb! One such day in spring inspired me to create this piece. It's a challenge to replicate some of the vibrant colours in paint, and it's hard to believe some of these flowers are real actually as they are so perfect!

Vast and exciting - the ever changing outback! The red of the earth looks different in varying light. This storm in Anmatyerr Country, north west of Alice Springs, changed the scene very quickly, and of course the mood!
It's always a challenge to capture these beautiful scenes; to get the colours just right and to show the true expanse. The space is so freeing and it can be so quiet, unless a bird comes by.

As the sun dips below the horizon, an incredible golden glow emerges, casting a warm light behind the mauve clouds drifting over the ocean. The scene is mesmerising, with the sky's colours shifting from the original light yellows, to deep oranges and purples. The experience of watching this transformation is truly exhilarating. Each moment feels fleeting, as the beauty of the sunset seems almost too stunning to be real, disappearing before your eyes in a breathtaking display of nature's artistry. The ever-changing hues create a sense of wonder and serenity, capturing the essence of a perfect coastal evening.

Laramba (220km northwest of Alice Springs), Anmatyerr Country. A popular waterhole as it never runs dry. Incredible rugged red rock towers over the cool still water, and reflections of the rock, blue blue sky and the greenery create a very picturesque scene. Such a peaceful spot, away from the business of life...
A combination of palette knife and broad brushstrokes, with acrylic paints and sculptural impasto paste helped me to achieve this final impression.

I absolutely love this cheerful yellow vase! What better way to bring it to life than with a gorgeous burst of fresh pink roses, gerberas and delicate white daisies? I remember exactly how I felt this day strolling along the beach and then sitting and just taking in this beautiful afternoon. The sun was a soft glow above the hills and the reflections touched the water and sparkled in the ripples. I really didn’t want the day to end. It’s one of my favourite spots, so reliving the experience whilst painting this piece was a pleasure!
I enjoyed trying a slightly different approach, and the colours are a bit different for me, but I think it worked nicely.

The incredible colours of the Tanami Desert create a wonderful display – dry spinifex grasses sitting against the red earth, and what often seems like a deep blue sky. Perhaps the blue is intensified by the contrasting earth. Northwest of Alice Springs, the Anmatyerr Country has seen some rain as the bush flowers are popping with yellow.
This was an exciting piece to create, after visiting this area in years gone by, memories came back to me of such a wonderful experience – the space, the dry heat, the quiet and the sounds of nature, the people, the colours so different to others in Australia.
Impasto was applied to my acrylic paints with the palette knife giving great texture. My intention was to capture the dryness of the earth and the roughness of the vegetation in a contemporary style. I was pleased with the result!

Autumn truly is a magical season! The air is filled with an excitement, with cool breezes and sometimes even brisk winds. I recently had the pleasure of exploring the countryside of NSW and Victoria, and the autumn landscapes were absolutely breathtaking.
This painting captures a charming street in downtown Orange, NSW. The colours on display were simply extraordinary—crimsons, reds, oranges, yellows and lime greens all blended together. The crisp breeze rustled through the branches, carrying with it a kaleidoscope of beautiful hues.

This was such a spectacular scene and quite breathtaking. Mudgee in New South Wales is so pretty with its rolling hills, open spaces and impressive vineyards. The sunsets over the area are so beautiful. I wanted to create more of an impression with this piece and the palette knife and crisp bold colours helped me to achieve it. I was excited to see it come together on the canvas, even though a bit of a challenge!

The morning light spreading across the horizon and hitting the waves can be blinding with the sun heralding the new day. Light lemon-yellow glistening on top of crisp aqua blues of the ocean, and deep cobalt blue in the sky framing the emerald headland, highlights being picked out on the tips of the bushes. However, even on a grey rainy day, the mood can be so different, but exciting, and the colours change to muted deep blues and greens in the ocean, and heavy blue greys in the sky.

Fingal Bay is often referred to as ‘Paradise’ in my family!
We are so lucky to live in this country, let alone live near one of the most stunning beaches!
I was amazed one afternoon, while just doing a regular walk, to see the most beautiful glow of light in the sky over the beach. There was an incredible pinkish glow in the dramatic clouds, which was reflected in the water. A sea mist hovered as well - all together, it was a most surreal experience. I have always remembered it, and it truly was something I wanted to paint.

What a sight to see these incredible crimson-pink magnolias against a blue-blue spring sky, just gorgeous! I love to walk most days, and I do love to study gardens and floral displays. When the magnolias appear in early spring, I will be seen just standing in the street and taking in their beauty. (Yes, artists can seem a little mad.) The shape of the petals are so elegant, and together they form a gorgeous crown. The dark jagged stick-like stems create a lovely contrast to the soft curvaceous petals. To add to their beauty the gentle fragrance fills the air…a treasure to behold!
I used a different technique for this one, using an impasto gel to enhance the textures. It gave more of a three dimensional look to the stems and the petals.
