Caloundra is a place I visit fairly regularly. Bullcock Beach is facing the top end of Bribie Island and is well known as a safe beach for young kids. I like the juxtaposition of beach, water, trees and man-made structures that make it an interesting place to look at.

When I come to a path to the beach it always starts a level of anticipation in me for what lies at the end. This path seemed to be drawing me in to get to the beach and the enjoyment that would happen there.

On a trip to Killarney, at the edge of the Darling Downs, I noticed a hill that was bathed in magnificent afternoon light. This painting is my attempt to capture this.

I spotted a small boat coming towards port in the early evening. I was stuck by the purposeful motion of the boat moving across the choppy surface of the ocean.

The artwork depicts a track in the mountains near Springbrook. I was inspired by the calming effect that the scene had on me after what had been a really hectic week.

The walk from Rainbow Bay, past Snapper rocks, then to Point Danger on the border of Queensland and New South Wales is very scenic. The small bay between the two is beautiful, including the thick concrete wall that is a reminder of past activities.

Walking along the esplanade, I often see pelicans using the rock groins built during the great depression. I am heartened by this example of where nature has adapted to manmade structures that replaced the original shoreline.

A local park in the early morning. The drama of the light and shadows caught my attention.

Inspired by the light and shadows cast across the park by the late afternoon sun.

This depicts the Story bridge spanning the small park that borders Brisbane River. I was inspired by the stillness of the scene, considering it is surrounded by busy city life.

Early in the morning with the sunlight just starting to come through the local jetty.

When the sun lights up the sky at the beach, even if you cannot directly see the sunrise, it can be truly magical.

I arrived at the beach to see people lying on the beach, sunshine and waves rolling in past the headland. However, above the headland I could see dark clouds forming. So possibly the perfect beach day might be interrupted by rain.
