When I started creating this, I had no plan in mind and was only trying to enjoy painting on a new surface. When the blue and green layers emerged, they were definitely asking for some flowers to be added. Again, with no definite plan, I started adding some flowers. Now that it has been sitting on my dining room wall for the last few days, I noticed how the smaller bunch of flowers seems to be following the direction of the bigger bunch. It somehow reminded me of the time when my younger siblings used to insert themselves in my group of friends very confidently with a question - May I hangout with you?
This is my first artwork on a cradled wooden panel and has three generous layers of gesso to protect the wood, ensuring durability.
Unframed and ready to hang.

If you have gone through the process of house hunting between states, you would totally relate to this artwork. This has been created during a period when I was doing road trips between states every weekend, for house hunting. If you look at the painting carefully, you would find elements you can relate to.
For example, the black in the bottom corners and the 'U' shape at the top represents the night time driving on the highway so that we could be at the destination for early morning house inspections. The yellow sequence of blocks represents the endless hours spent staring at house plans on real estate websites.

The inspiration for this piece came from the small artworks that I had created during an art challenge. I was exploring different colour palettes and floral styles. I am very pleased that the art challenge helped me take another step forward in developing my style.
Fun fact - This painting has three other paintings underneath it. Instead of throwing away an artwork that I am not happy with, I use the existing layers as the base and paint over them. Love the texture that lower layers leave behind.

Inspired by the colourful trees on top of rolling hills at Arboretum, Canberra. For me, if spring is the blush on the cheeks of a new bride, autumn is the after glow. Autumn being my favourite season of the year and the last burst of colour before winter, leaves me inspired for a long, long time. Hope the colours in this one fill your heart with glow too.
