Jenni Jean
Jenni is an intuitive Australian artist whose work explores the quiet magic of the land and the emotional landscapes of the heart. Living in the Hunter region of New South Wales, she draws inspiration from the rolling hills, wildflowers, and the ever‑changing play of light and water in nature.
Jenni’s collections range from soft, impressionistic florals, to expressive abstracts and soulful landscapes. Painting for Jenni is a conversation with memory and emotion, with each layer a way of honouring the beauty of impermanence, grief and transformation. As she builds up her works, she lets them unfold naturally, often stepping back to see what’s emerging, and responding to what the painting wants next. Texture, layering and fine details come last, often added with oil pastels or a palette knife.
Jenni initially studied art at high school, before beginning her career as a nurse and spending many years living and travelling overseas. She began painting again in June 2023, first in oils and later in acrylics. She is entirely self-taught, having learnt by observing other artists and taking a few short courses online along the way.
Jenni has been a participant in the Incognito Art Show and had a painting selected for the Botanicals Exhibition at Newcastle Art Space. She is a member of Newcastle Artist Collective and has sold works through Gloucester Creatives, as well as completing commissioned paintings for members of the local Gloucester community. Each of these experiences has encouraged Jenni to continue to grow and share her work with a wider audience.

Connection emerged from the same visual language as My Mother’s Garden, exploring the invisible threads that link us across time, memory and experience.
Painted in soft layers of blue, green and light, the work reflects those moments when the boundaries between past and present seem to dissolve. A memory surfaces, a feeling returns, and for an instant we find ourselves connected to someone or something we thought was far away.
A gentle reminder that love, memory and belonging do not move in straight lines. They continue to meet us, again and again, in new ways.

Inspired by the memory of my mother's garden, Confluence began as an exploration of place, but evolved into something less tangible. Rather than depicting the garden itself, I found myself drawn to the spaces within it—the pathways, currents and connections that exist between forms.
Soft passages of blue, green and white move across the surface like mist, water, air, or light. Shapes emerge and dissolve. Edges blur and reappear. The painting inhabits a space between landscape and abstraction, inviting the viewer to sense rather than define what is present.
As I worked, I became aware of the painting as a meditation on connection. The flowing pathways began to resemble channels, synapses, rivers converging, or unseen threads linking one place to another. It reflects my experience of continuing relationship—how memory, love and influence remain present long after physical absence.
The title Confluence refers to the meeting of separate streams. It is a place of convergence: between mother and daughter, memory and presence, earth and spirit, past and present. Rather than focusing on loss, the work explores the subtle currents that continue to flow between us.
Like mist, light, or air, these connections cannot be held, yet they are deeply felt.

My Mother’s Garden is a reflection on memory, presence, and the enduring connections that continue across time. Created in the lead-up to Mother’s Day, the painting emerged through reflections on childhood, motherhood, and the quiet moments once shared in a beloved garden.
Layered circular forms move through soft greens, whites, and luminous light-filled spaces, suggesting pathways, portals, or unseen connections between the physical and the spiritual. The work evokes the feeling of being held within memory — where places, people, and moments continue to live within us long after they have passed.
Created intuitively through layers of colour, gesture and mark-making, the painting speaks to remembrance, love, and the sense that those who shaped us remain present in subtle and enduring ways.
