  • Seize the Day is an expressive oil painting inspired by the spirit of carpe diem, urging viewers to embrace the present moment with enthusiasm. The artwork is bathed in warm, luminous hues of blues, golden yellow, warm earth tones and creamy white, creating a feeling that is boundless and uplifting. These colours harmonise on the surface layers, with the underneath layers of colour breaking through, revealing what has come before, suggesting a memory or a fleeting moment in your life. The creamy whites and pale blue add a sense of balance, providing pockets of calm that allow the eye to rest and absorb the abstract shapes and composition.

  • This painting reminded me of the Beatles song Scarborough Fair and the local Scarborough Beach. It is an abstract representation of the feelings of summer and the coastal landscape, and aims to capture the essence of the colours and warmth of a summer day at the beach and the lightness of being from the song. This artwork invites you, the viewer, to recall your memories of the music and a summer at the beach.

I paint in oils with different viscosity.  Oil pigment sticks create vibrancy, texture and movement. I also add, remove and scrape into the paint surface to make unique marks, which create further interest and many focal points.

  • The vast Australian desert is home to many breathtaking natural wonders, one of which is the salt lakes and flats that dot the arid landscape. This artwork captures their essence of their unique beauty.

The dominant colours in the painting are shades of orange, deep pinks and reds, pale white blues and black curvilinear lines. The colours represent the warmth of the desert, the heat of the sun, the reflections of the sky at dawn and dusk, and the starkness of the salt flats. The curvilinear lines add a sense of movement and structure to the composition, mimicking the flow of the wind that shapes the salt formations. The inclusion of numbers represents human presence and their interference with the landscape for salt mining.

  • Flying Kimono suggests the fabric of a kimono caught in mid-flight, capturing the dynamic movement of colours and forms across the canvas. The interplay of hot pink to pale pink, with bright yellow sashes, guides the viewer’s gaze around the composition.

Some of the revealed layers expose various mark-making, which adds texture and depth, creating a rich texture to the painting’s surface. Small areas of black punctuate the piece, grounding the vibrant hues and adding contrast. The black accents serve as focal points. The painting is a powerful celebration of colour.

  • Sydney Harbour is one of the most iconic and breathtaking destinations in the world. This vibrant and dynamic harbour is home to many stunning lighthouses. As you stand on the shore, you can't help but be captivated by the vibrant colours and you can almost hear the sounds from the bustling boats and ferries crisscrossing the harbour, with the lighthouse bearing witness to a harbour life.

The application of the oil paints and crayons describe the movement of the water in stunning shades of blues and turquoise.

  • The Harbour Sentinel stands in a silent gaze, watching, protecting and being the voyeur of the harbour. It is an anchor in the vast expanse, providing a sense of comfort and stability to those who seek its guiding light.

The expressive application of the oil pastels over the alluring colour palette gives life to the ever-present movement of water around the lighthouse. Captured in varying shades of sea blues, contrasted with the unwavering solidity of the lighthouse, is a testament to its resilience.

  • This vibrant abstract painting of a marina in the development phase, with a shimmering blue ocean, stands not only as a visual feast, but as a profound environmental commentary on modern society's manipulation of coastlines. The suggestion of towering edifices reflect society's insatiable thirst for ocean view real estate and construction of marinas to accommodate the coastal lifestyle and marine activities.

The surface materiality is dominated by an array of pencil marks and lines and serves as an allegorical reminder of the way we continually reshape the natural world to satisfy our desires and materialism. The numbers epitomise the calculated nature of these developments. They are the builders' cold calculations, suggesting the rationalization of nature's inherent value.

This abstract painting invites us to reflect on the ongoing conflict between human desire and environmental preservation. It's more than just a representation of a marina; it's an emotional and philosophical exploration of our relationship with the coastal environment. It asks us to ponder the costs of our continuous construction, our never-ending chase for pleasure, and our disregard for the very environment that provides these treasures.

  • Because I Am Happy is a joyful explosion of colour and light, capturing the essence of pure joy through bold, expressive brushstrokes and vivid hues. Intense oranges and bright pinks dominate the canvas, creating a vibrant, uplifting energy that radiates from the painting. The colours feel warm and inviting, evoking the exhilaration of carefree moments and the simple pleasure of being alive.

Contrasting the vivid pinks and oranges are moments of lime green and large, brush strokes of white, which bring lightness and balance to the composition. The strokes of white create visual breathing room, emphasising the bright colours and giving the piece a sense of openness and space.

  • Feel the offshore breeze from the east northeast, imagine the swell rolling in from the west southwest, and hear the crash of waves against the rugged reef, the raw beauty and untamed spirit of the coastline—a snapshot of nature in motion and the timeless allure of the surf.

The composition reflects the essence of Windmills’ fairly consistent waves, which break over patches of reef, forming perfect left and right-handers that rarely exceed two meters. The ocean dominates the canvas with shades of deep and light blues, suggesting the constant movement of surging swells, the white water of waves crashing over the reef, and the  white foam of breaking surf. Orange marks made with oil sticks, signify the patches of reef and rocky outcrops of the coastal landscape.

Windmills is one of Cape Naturaliste's renowned surfing spots, capturing the rhythmic beauty of the western coastline and the energy of its ocean waves.

  • North Point Grace Town captures the raw energy and striking beauty of one of West Australia’s premier surfing spots at Cowaramup Bay. Renowned for its powerful, hollow barrels and challenging right-hand reef/point break, North Point is for more advanced surfers on the bigger days, when waves tower over three meters. The painting seeks to capture both the allure and intensity of this iconic location, inviting viewers to experience this popular surfing spot through bold colour and layered texture.

Ocean blues dominate the composition, shifting from deep, moody tones to lighter, turquoise hues. Streaks of white carve through the canvas, depicting the churning surf as it breaks over the reef. The force and fluidity of the ocean are rendered in expressive brush strokes that emphasise the untamed character of the bay.

The coastal landscape is highlighted in warm, earthy oranges, representing the rugged reef and rocky outcrops that frame North Point. These tones ground the painting, creating a vivid contrast to the blues and whites of the ocean.

Layers of green unfold across the canvas, from bright emerald to softer, pale blue/greens, capturing the depth and variety of fields. • The morning after the flood can be a surreal experience. The world that was once familiar is now transformed into an alien landscape, and the remnants of the deluge can be seen everywhere in the aftermath. The viewer can see the outlines of buildings, rooves of homes, remnants of what was once a road, some of them partially submerged by the floodwaters.

After the Flood captures the eerie beauty and sense of renewal that often accompanies natural disasters. It is a reminder that even in the face of destruction, there is always the possibility of a new beginning.

  • This colourful series of four small paintings celebrates the exhilarating surf culture of Yallingup, distilling the energy and movement of its legendary waves into striking compositions of shape and colour. Each piece is a dynamic abstraction of the ocean, where sweeping curves and layered hues suggest the powerful motion of rolling swells and the rhythm of the sea. The colour palette is a fusion of deep blues, turquoise, and aqua, evoking the pristine waters of Yallingup’s famous surf breaks, while pops of yellow and orange add warmth to the composition and suggests the notion of surf boards, wetsuits and flippers.

Bold, fluid shapes intertwine to represent surfboards slicing through the waves, the sharp arcs of fins cutting the water, and the shifting currents beneath a surfer’s feet. The composition captures the thrill of the ride—moments of weightlessness, speed, and pure connection with the ocean. Through a balance of organic and geometric forms, the paintings evoke the raw power of the surf, while celebrating the bravery of those who carve across its surface. This series is an invitation to experience the rush, freedom, and endless allure of riding the perfect wave

  • When Fire Dreams captures the intense, untamed energy of a fiery inferno, where swirls of cream and white give way to vivid orange lines and the stark contrast of black rectangles. The paint drips like molten embers, evoking the sound and heat of flames crackling alive.

This abstract composition embodies the spirit of the phoenix—a metaphorical journey of transformation and renewal. It symbolises harnessing the consuming fire of life’s challenges to rise anew, dreaming with resilience and passion.

The composition is characterised by its dynamic chaotic lines, which guides the viewer’s gaze, leading them through the blazing fire, emphasising the sense of motion and emergency that is inherent in an up close experience of the extreme heat, and warning, you are "in clear and present danger", to quote Tom Clancy.

There are many layers of paint – some hidden, some breaking through, and some clearly revealed, creating a rich surface texture and depth.

Very modern, contemporary abstract work that would look fantastic hanging in your home.
